Legalized Gambling
The state House has advanced a bill that would allow casino gaming on Hawaiian Home Lands (House Bill 2759). The bill calls for 80 percent of revenues generated from gambling operations to go toward development of Hawaiian Homes communities. The remaining 20 percent would be deposited into the state general fund. A separate bill, HB 2251, also aims for gambling revenues, but from tourists: establishing a commission to oversee gambling in a single licensed casino that would be open only to non-residents.
